Clutch Play Leads Blue Devils to WHAC Championship Victory

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The (RV) Lawrence Technological University men's golf team won the 12-team WHAC Championship at Bedford on Saturday afternoon as Liam McEvoy was the runner-up, while Victor Queinnec and Thomas Delmas earned top-five finishes.

The Blue Devils posted a two-day team score of 883 (+19) to tie the Universi ty of Northwestern Ohio, by making up seven strokes on day two.

McEvoy and Queinnec started four shots off the lead from in round one, before a 1-under, 71 brought McEvoy three shots off the lead at the end of day one. A 3-under, 69 on day two, the only sub-70 score in the tournament, brought McEvoy within one shot of the winner, but gave LTU a chance to catch UNOH.

The Blue Devils finished day one in second place (600), trailing UNOH (593) by seven strokes, but made it up down the stretch, finishing day two with a -5, 283 compounded with UNOH's +2, 290, the teams were deadlocked, forcing a 5v5 sudden death tiebreaker on 16.

It was an eagle on par-4 16 that separated the two teams, as the they traded three birdies each with UNOH grabbing par against the eagle.

The Blue Devils will head to NAIA National Championships at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois starting May 17.
