ADRIAN, Mich. – The Lawrence Technological University softball team used a three-run inning and a complete game five-hit, one-run performance from
Clover Brandt to best the Siena Heights University Saints 5-1 in game one.
In game two, a four-run seventh erased a 4-1 deficit to stun the Saints 5-4 and earn a crucial sweep.
How It Happened:
Game One
- The Saints almost got out of the third inning unscathed by working around two LTU hits but Lily Morrissette delivered a bases-clearing two-out triple to put her team ahead 3-0.
- SHU capitalized on a one-out double in the fourth to trim the margin to two, 3-1.
- A pair of walks and an error-plagued the Saints in the sixth as pinch-runner Chloe Carpenter scored via a misplayed ball by the centerfielder, off the bat of Larissa Mercado, to put LTU up 4-1.
- Brandt set down the side in order in the sixth before Callie Tatum scored after her leadoff triple on a wild pitch as LTU tacked on one more insurance run.
- The Saints made it an interesting in the seventh as they loaded the bases with two outs but Brandt got the next hitter to fly out to Lauren Lanphear in right to end the threat.
Inside the Numbers;
- Brandt bounced back strong from her last outing: (W) 7 IP, 5 H, 1ER, 3 BB, 3K.
- The first seven hitters in the Blue Devils' lineup each recorded a hit.
- LTU outhit SHU 7-5 and committed two fewer errors (1-3).
Game Two
- Back-to-back singles to start the first led to a two-spot for SHU early on in game two.
- A leadoff double followed by a sacrifice bunt in the fourth allowed the Saints to add another via a sacrifice fly to push the margin to 3-0.
- The inning didn't end there however as a two-out double followed by a pinch-hit single to center made it a 4-0 ballgame.
- Tatum got her team on the board in the next frame as she came all the way around on a triple after an SHU error.
- Erin Wehler began the seventh with a pinch-hit leadoff double to left. Mercado followed by getting aboard by an error to put runners on the corners for LTU with nobody out.
- Sarah Hige followed with an RBI single to left center to plate Wehler before Tatum smacked a double to center to knot the game at 4-4.
- Morgan James' productive out advanced Tatum to third with one down while Lanphear brought her home on a fielder's choice to give LTU its first lead of the game.
- Grace Schriber set the Saints down in order in the seventh to earn her second win of the season.

- Tatum: 3-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 R (4-for-8 3 R, 2 RBI, 2 3B on the day)
- Schriber came on in relief: 3.1 IP, 1 H, 2K
