Beverley Hills, MI - The Lawrence Technological University softball team played a doubleheader at home on Sunday afternoon against #20 Madonna University. The Blue Devils struggled to get the bats going in game one as they fell short 11-1 (Final 5). In Game two the Blue Devils were held to only four hits and one run as they lost 6-1.
How It Happened: Game One - LTU 1, MU 11 (Final 5)
- Madonna started the top of the first scoring four runs on two hits.
- In the bottom of the second inning, Gloriana Su'a doubled to left field.
- Morgan James came up next and delivered a single through the left side to score Su'a
- The Crusaders extended their lead in the top of the third scoring three runs on three walks, 7-1.
- Blue Devils went three up three down in the third and fourth.
- Madonna would score three more runs in the fifth to go up 11-1.
- In the final inning, the Blue Devils could not rally as they lost this game 11-1 (Final 5)
By The Numbers:
- Lauren Fife went 1-for-2
- Su'a went 1-for-2 scoring one run.
- James went 1-for-2 and one RBI.
Su'a got the start in game one pitching 2.1 innings on five hits and seven runs while striking out one batter.
Grace Schriber came in on relief and pitched 2.2 innings giving up four hits and four runs. Schriber struck out one batter.
How It Happened: Game Two - LTU 1, MU 6
- In the top of the first, LTU would leave two runners stranded on base after Sarah Hige reached on an error, and Callie Tatum singled.
- The Crusaders scored two runs in the top of the second from two doubles.
- The Blue Devils left two runners on base in the bottom half of the inning.
- Both teams went three up three down in the third.
- In the bottom of the fourth, James blasted her first career home run to cut the deficit to 2-1.
- No runs were scored in the fifth inning.
- In the top of the sixth, Madonna scored two runs from two fielding errors and a single up the middle.
- The Blue Devils could not capitalize after two batters were hit by pitch as they left three runners on.
- LTU would go three up three down in the seventh to fall short to Madonna 6-1.
By The Numbers:
- James went 2-for-2 with one run, one RBI, one HR.
- Tatum went 1-for-2
- Chloe Carpenter went 1-for-2
Clover Brandt would pitch a complete game giving up 13 hits on six runs. Brandt struck out three batter in her outing.
The next Blue Devils game is on Wednesday, April 6th when they play the University of Michigan-Dearborn on the road at University Liggett School. The first pitch will be thrown at 3:30 PM
