Wixom, MI - The Lawrence Technological University softball team played a doubleheader on Thursday evening against the University of Michigan Dearborn. In game one the Blue Devils were held to five hits and two runs as they lost by a final of 8-2. In game two, LTU tried to rally late in the bottom of the sixth and seventh inning but was too late as they dropped game two by a final of 10-2
How It Happened: UMD 8, LTU 2
- The Blue Devils were held scoreless in the first two innings on three hits.
- UMD took the lead in the second inning after a sacrifice bunt and single up the middle.
- LTU got on the board after Callie Tatum singled to center field to bring home Sarah Hige.
- Batters later, Mazie Lawler reached based on a throwing error to score Hige to tie the game up at two.
- The Wolverines would score four runs in the bottom of the third on two hits and two errors.
- The Blue Devils went three up three down in the top half of the fourth.
- UMD extended their lead to 8-2 in the fifth after an infield single.
- LTU could stranded a couple runners in the last couple of innings.
- The Blue Devils would lose game one by a final of 8-2.
By The Numbers:
Gloriana Su'a was on the mound pitching 3.0 innings giving up five hits and six runs while striking out one batter.
Grace Schriber came on in relief and finished the game giving up four hits and three strikeouts.
How It Happened: UMD 10, LTU 2
- A UMD solo shot in the third started off the scoring for the Wolverines.
- LTU would go three up three down in the bottom half of the inning
- The Wolverines went up by two after they scored on a wild pitch.
- In the top of the fifth, the Blue Devils stranded one runner.
- A three run homer by UMD put them up 5-0 in the fifth inning.
- In the top half of the sixth, LTU tried to rally late after a double down the left field line from Lanphear to score Larissa Mercado and Su'a
- The Blue Devils rally was too late as they dropped game two by a final of 10-2.
By The Numbers:
- Lanphear went 2-for-3 with two RBI, Su'a and Mercado both went 1-for-3 with one run, and Hige went 1-for-3.
Clover Brandt was on the bump in game two throwing 4.1 innings giving up nine hits on seven runs. Brandt struck out three batters.
The next Blue Devils game is on Saturday, April 9th when they play Rochester University on the road at Rochester High School. Game one will begin at 1 PM.
