No. 22 Men's Hockey Bounces Back to Gain Split vs Concordia (Michigan)

Box Score CANTON, Mich.--The No. 22-ranked ACHA Division 1 Lawrence Tech men's hockey team scored three times in the third period to secure a 6-2 victory Saturday at Concordia (Michigan) in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action at the Arctic Edge. With the win, the Blue Devils gain a weekend series split against the Cardinals to improve to 2-4 overall and 2-2 in the WHAC. CUAA falls to 4-3-1 on the season and 1-3 in the conference.

Charlie Ward led the LTU cause with a pair of goals. Drake Barnish also had two points with a goal and an assist, while Christopher Kondiles and David Hoftiezer chipped in a pair of assists apiece.

Ward staked LTU to a 2-0 lead with his two markers in the first period at 2:09 and 13:32.

The teams traded tallies in the second period. Brenden Preiss made it 3-0 with an unassisted shorthanded goal at 10:17 before Kyle Hebner got the Cardinals on the scoreboard 7 minutes and 39 seconds later at 17:56.

Lawrence Tech scored three of the next four goals in the pivotal third period. Barnish found the back of the net at 5:28 for a 4-1 advantage. Jacob Holston and Hoftiezer were credited with assists on the play.

Quinn Bieniek notched the Cardinals other goal at 14:08, with assists from Jackson Blough and Brandon Troyer.

Blue Devils goalie Brett Tome had 28 saves, while his CUAA counterpart Zachary Janis stopped 26 shots.

Lawrence Tech is back in action next weekend for a two-game WHAC series with Rochester, starting Friday (time TBA) on the road at Big Boy Arena in Fraser before shifting Saturday (10:15 p.m.) to LTU's home venue, Farmington Hills Ice Arena.
