ADRIAN, Mich.--The Lawrence Tech women's volleyball team got a double-double from
Lindsay Hubler and a monster defensive performance from
Juliana Bollini, but the Blue Devils ultimately couldn't recover from a two-set deficit to fall on the road to Siena Heights in a five-set thriller on Saturday on Fred Smith Court at the Siena Heights Fieldhouse. The set scores in favor of SHU were 25-21, 25-23, 14-25, 19-25, 15-8.
The Blue Devils' four-match winning streak was snapped and fell to 10-9 overall, including 8-7 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. The host Saints, meanwhile, improve to 19-7 on the season and 11-5 in the conference.
Hubler smashed 21 kills to lead all attackers and she hit .308 to go along with 15 digs. Reigning WHAC Player of the Week
Riley O'Connell added 12 kills (.233) and five total blocks, and
Maria Trevino Nunez contributed 10 kills. Setter
Abby Zambeck dished 30 assists, seven digs and two service aces, and Bollini kept many rallies alive with a match-best 26 digs.
Olivia Norman led the SHU offense with 15 kills (.364), followed by Devyne Eisenhauer with 12 and Kinsey Wagner had 11 (.556). Aubrey Bates produced 48 assists.
In the decisive fifth set, LTU outhit SHU (.600 to .529) but the Saints had four more kills (10-6).
The Blue Devils dug themselves a hole because they hit just .194 in the first two sets while the Saints .323 and .205 to jump to a commanding 2-0 lead.
But LTU didn't give up and was more efficient on offense in the next two frames by hitting .405 in the third and .300 in the fourth, while holding the Saints to below .100.
The Blue Devils held statistical advantages in kills (64-58), digs (79-68), attack percentage (296-.205) and team blocks (12-7).
