Aaron Dolny pumped in 23 points in his Lawrence Tech debut, and the Blue Devils drained 14 three-pointers, but host Indiana-South Bend pulled away late to earn an 89-79 victory Saturday in non-conference men's basketball action at the Student Activities Center. It was the 2023-24 season opener for both programs.

IU-South Bend Highlights
- Quent Columbus led all scorers with 25 points on 9-for-15 shooting from the floor and 4-for-5 at the free throw line.
- Jylen Petty added 20 points on 8-for-9 field goal shooting and completed the double-double with 10 rebounds off the bench.
- Dejon Barney (18 points) and Micah Poole (14) also scored in double figures.
Beyond the Boxscore
- IU-South Bend returns a solid nucleus this season after going 23-9 overall, 15-5 in the ChicagoLand Collegiate Athletic Conference, winning its third conference tournament title in four years as the No. 4 seed, and advancing to the NAIA National Tournament.
- The Blue Devils, who return two starters from the 2022-23 squad that went 13-16 overall and 9-12 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, have 15 newcomers in 2023-24.
Next up, Lawrence Tech will participate at the Madonna University Bernie Holowicki Classic on Nov. 3-4 held at the Alliance Catholic Credit Union Arena at the PAAAC. The Blue Devils will meet Roosevelt University on Friday (5 p.m.) and Hope International University (Calif.) on Saturday (2 p.m.).
