LIVONIA, Mich.--In a complete performance in an all phases of the game, the Lawrence Tech football team ended the 2023 campaign with a record-setting 66-21 victory Saturday over host Madonna in a Mid-States Football Association Mideast League contest played at Churchill High School. The Blue Devils put a wrap on the season with a 3-7 overall record, including 2-5 in the MSFA Mideast, while the Crusaders slide to 0-11 overall and 0-7 in the conference.
Lawrence Tech Highlights
- Freshman Alex Osman broke the single-game school record with five touchdown passes, completing 10 of 14 passes for 278 yards against no interceptions.
- Classmate Tyler Garrett led all receivers with 126 yards on three receptions, including a pair of TDs--all career highs.
- Junior Jaden Rembert added four catches for 122 yards and two receiving TDs.
- Redshirt junior linebacker Matt Plaga led a stout LTU defense with six tackles among seven total, including two tackles for loss of 11 yards and a sack (9). He also had a pass breakup.
- Redshirt sophomore linebacker Brody Snyder and redshirt junior defensive lineman Jordan Lewis both had four tackles and five total.
- Sophomore Vincent Robison was perfect kicking with 3-for-3 in field goals (21 yards, 42 and 41) and 7-for-7 on extra-points.
Madonna Highlights
- Quarterback Max Morris threw for 140 yards on 13 completions.
- Dante Cardinali led all defenders with six tackles and 10 total.
- D'Vonta Garrett rushed for 25 yards and two TDs.
How it Happened
- Lawrence Tech jumped out to a commanding 35-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.
- On the first offensive play of the game, Osman hooked up with Garrett for a 40-yard TD pass that was set up by a 25-yard kickoff return to the LTU 46-yard line and then a Crusaders personal foul penalty that put the football at the MU 40 for the drive start.
- With 10 minutes and 1 second left, redshirt freshman running back D'Vaun Bentley gave LTU a 14-0 lead on a 1-yard plunge into the end zone to cap a 55-yard drive in eight plays and 3:46 in time of possession.
- Freshman defensive lineman Aaron Mitchell highlighted the Blue Devils' first-quarter scoring onslaught with a 10-yard TD fumble return that made it 28-0 with 6:41 remaining.
- Cole Rosenow caught a 21-yard TD pass from Morris to put the Crusaders on the scoreboard to open the second half scoring. Lawrence Tech led 35-7.
- The Blue Devils enjoyed also enjoyed statistical advantages in takeaways (plus-4), total offense (432-154) and rushing yards (155-14).
- Lawrence Tech converted three Madonna turnovers into 17 points.
Beyond the Boxscore
- Osman surpassed Tyler Kulka's previous record of four TD passes established on a couple occasions.
- The 35 points in the first quarter are a LTU record and the 66 points for the game are second-most in school history.
- Rembert has made 118 receptions for 1714 yards in his 28-game career--good for third place all-time in LTU history in the former and surpassing CJ Thompson (1645; 2018-22) in the latter.
- Redshirt senior CJ Davidson had 29 yards on four carries to extend his LTU career rushing yards record to 1116.
- Lawrence Tech won its final two games of 2023 by scoring 107 points.
