Maggie Long paced Lawrence Tech with 16 points apiece, and the Blue Devils outscored visiting Michigan-Dearborn 41-32 in the second half, during a 70-62 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference women's basketball victory at Don Ridler Field House on Tuesday night. The Blue Devils have won two games in a row to improve to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in the WHAC, while the Wolverines dip to 1-5 on the season and 0-2 in the conference.
Lawrence Tech Highlights
- Senior Jade Faris scored 13 points, had six rebounds and produced a game-high four steals before fouling out.
- Sophomore Kate Jacobs (5 points) tied Evans for the team-lead with seven rebounds before she, too, left the game with five fouls.
UM-Dearborn Highlights
- India Grissom scored a game-high 20 points on 8-for-13 field goal shooting.
- Maya Barakat added 16 points while making 5-of-9 field goal attempts and 6-for-8 from the free throw line.
- Barakat also pulled down a game-best nine rebounds, while Emily Grulke (6 points, 3 steals, 2 blocks) chipped in eight.
How it Happened
- A trey by sophomore Gracie Bobo (12 points off the bench) from the left elbow staked LTU to the largest lead for either side at 12 points, 51-39, with 2 minutes and 11 seconds left in the third quarter.
- The Wolverines managed to climb back within 55-54 on a Barakat layup with 4:42 left in the fourth.
- But Faris converted a traditional three-point play and Long nailed a 3ball to quickly build the Blue Devils' lead up to seven at 61-54 with 3:12 remaining. Faris and Long scored six points each in the final minutes to help keep UMD at bay and no closer than four points after that.
- LTU--which did not trail for the last 19 minutes of the contest--outscored UMD 24-12 in the third quarter to take a 53-42 advantage.
- Lawrence Tech made 20 of 23 free throw attempts for an 87.0 percent clip.
- UM-Dearborn stayed in the contest by outscoring LTU in the paint, 32-20.
- The game featured 10 ties and 11 lead changes--mostly in the first half when neither team led by more than two possessions.

- Lawrence Tech opened the 2023-24 season with a five-game homestand.
- The Blue Devils lead the WHAC in free throw percentage at .782, while making 15.8 (2nd) and attempting 20.2 (4th) per game.
- The LTU defense also lists third with 60.4 points allowed per game and first in opponents field goal percentage at .343.
- Lawrence Tech is 20-2 all-time against UM-Dearborn and the 20 wins marks the most against any opponent.
The Blue Devils hit the road for the first time with a short trip to nearby NCAA Division II opponent Wayne State on Sunday (3 p.m.) for an exhibition game. Results and statistics will not count toward LTU's historical record.
