LIVONIA, Mich.--The Lawrence Tech men's basketball team spotted Roosevelt a 53-32 halftime lead and couldn't recover in a 92-67 loss at the hands of the Lakers to open the Madonna University Bernie Holowicki Classic at the Alliance Catholic Credit Union Arena at the PAAAC on Friday evening. Roosevelt improves to 2-0 on the season while the Blue Devils dip to 0-2 overall.

How it Happened

• The Lakers shot 57.6 percent (19-33) from the field while holding LTU to 33.3 percent (10-30) to take a 21-point advantage at the intermission.
• For the contest, Roosevelt made 34 of 66 field goals for 51.5 percent while LTU was 22 for 55 and 40.0 percent.
• The Lakers nearly led wire-to-wire save for two Nathaniel Ward free throws that gave LTU a 2-0 lead in the first minute.
• Roosevelt outrebounded LTU 35 to 28.
• In the second half, the Lakers outscored the Blue Devils only 39-35.

Lawrence Tech Highlights

• Brandon Beavers led LTU with 24 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.
• Macomb Community College transfer Cameron McEvans came off the bench to net 13 points and he contributed four rebounds.

Roosevelt Highlights

• Julio Montes II scored a game-high 38 points on 14-for-22 field goal shooting, including 6-for-11 from three-point range.
• Sangolay Njie came off the bench to score 18 points by making all seven of his field goal attempts and he grabbed nine rebounds.
• Malcolm Townsel added 11 points and Cody Mitchell (9 points) posted a game-best 12 rebounds.

Beyond the Boxscore

• The Lakers are members of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, the same NAIA affiliation of LTU's season-opening opponent in Indiana-South Bend on Oct. 28.
• Roosevelt is coming off a 19-10 campaign (16-4 CCAC) while LTU was 13-16 last season.
• The teams combined for only 17 turnovers, with LTU committing a season-low 11.
• Lawrence Tech won their last matchup 83-67 on Nov. 1, 2019.
• Beavers leads LTU with a 17.5 scoring average which ranks fifth in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.
