SOUTHFIELD--Brandon Beavers led five Blue Devils in double digits with 30 points as the Lawrence Tech men's basketball team held off a pesky Ohio Christian squad, 89-81, in non-conference action at the Don Ridler Field House on Tuesday evening. The visiting Trailblazers fall to 0-3 on the season while LTU has won back-to-back games to even its record to 2-2.
Lawrence Tech Highlights
- Nathaniel Ward added 15 points, followed by Alejandro Gonzalez with 13, Cameron McEvans had 12 off the bench and Aaron Dolny, 10.
- Beavers made 12 of 17 field goals, including 5-for-9 from three-point land, and led LTU with eight rebounds and three steals.
- Ward also had seven rebounds and two blocked shots, while Ioannis Giannoultsis contributed four assists and five rebounds.
- Gonzalez dished a game-high five assists.
Ohio Christian Highlights
- Levi Seiler led all scorers with 31 points on 10-of-21 field goal shooting (5-12 3FGs) and 6-of-10 from the free throw line.
- He also had seven rebounds and a team-high five assists.
- Elisha Moore added 17 points and Chapman Faulkner posted 11.
- Devon Miller (6 points) pulled down a game-best 12 rebounds and made three steals.
How it Happened
- Clinging to an 83-81 lead with 1 minute and 21 seconds left, Lawrence Tech made four free throws--three by Ward, who also had a key offensive rebound off a free throw miss and a steal--and held OCU scoreless the rest of the way to seal the win.
- Ohio Christian came all the way back from a 17-point deficit in the first half to take a brief 38-36 lead on a trey by Moore to start the second.
- But Lawrence Tech responded with a 19-5 run over a 6:07 span to take a 55-43 lead with 13:19 left in the contest. Beavers ignited the run with a pair of 3balls as LTU never trailed again--holding OCU at bay.
- Ohio Christian outrebounded LTU 46 to 33, but made only 38.4 percent of its field goals (28-73). The Blue Devils made 31 of 62 for 50.0 percent.
- The teams combined for 30 3-point field goals on 75 attempts from beyond the arc. Both made 15 treys.
- The Blue Devils also used their size to enjoy a 30-18 points in the paint advantage.
- LTU also had statistical advantages in fast-break points (15-5) and bench points (19-11).
- Beavers scored 14 points in the first half to help stake LTU to its biggest cushion of 17 points, 27-10, at the 8:38 mark.
- Ohio Christian got back in the game thanks to a 25-9 run to end the half down just 36-35. Faulkner had eight points to spark the comeback.

- Lawrence Tech also won the teams' previous meeting back on Oct. 25, 2019, in Ohio, 84-75.
- The Blue Devils lead the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference in three-pointers made per game (12.5) and attempted (35.5), which ranks seventh and second, respectively, in the NAIA.
Next up, LTU will make its WHAC debut at home on Saturday (3 p.m.) against Concordia University (Mich.).
