Livonia, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological University women's soccer team had an honor following a 2-0 week of games in the WHAC tournament.
Sophomore keeper
Gabi Nelson (West Chester, Ohio) earned National Defensive Player of the Week honor after winning WHAC Defensive Player of the Week honor. She started in goal for the Blue Devils in Wednesday nights WHAC quarter finals matchup against Madonna in a 3-0 win. Nelson taking seven shots from the Crusaders, saving all seven of those shots, recording her 11th shutout on the season. This game sent the Blue Devils to the WHAC semi-finals on Saturday against WHAC first seed team, Siena Heights.
Nelson started again in Saturday's game. Nelson taking 14 shots from the Saints, saving all 14 of those shots, recording her 12th shutout this season. The game ended scoreless for both teams, which lead to two 10 minutes of overtime. Overtime ended scoreless as well, sending the Blue Devils into PK's to find a winner. Nelson staying in goal for the Blue Devils during PK's, taking three Saint shooters. Nelson only letting one of the Saints shots in, helping the Blue Devils beat Siena Heights.
