FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich.--In a top-10 showdown of American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 3 men's teams, host Lawrence Tech outlasted Oakland University with an 8-4 thumping of the Golden Grizzlies in a Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference contest at Farmington Hills Ice Arena on Friday night. The No. 4-ranked Blue Devils are now 12-3-1 on the season after extending their winning streak to nine games and 6-0-1 in the MCHC East Division, while the 10th-ranked Golden Grizzlies fall to 12-5-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

Lawrence Tech Highlights Oakland Highlights
  • Jake McCatty netted a game-high four points on two goals and two assists.
  • Tommy Davis contributed a pair of assists.
  • Shane Arbour had a goal and an assist.
How it Happened
  • Jentz scored what proved to be the game-winning goal, unassisted, with 10 minutes and 17 seconds left in the second period to put LTU ahead 5-4 at the time. He stole the puck at his offensive blue line and skated in alone on the goaltender with the mini-breakaway.
  • McCatty scored his first goal of the night to give OU a 1-0 advantage just 1:50 gone in the opening period.
  • But LTU responded with three unanswered goals by sophomore Devin Genzel (13:11), Jentz (6:40) and sophomore Luke Radu (0:40) to take a 3-1 lead after the first period.
  • McCatty scored 61 seconds into the second period to close the gap to 3-2 before Rais restored LTU's two-goal lead 1:33 later at the 17:26 mark.
  • Lawrence Tech got insurance goals from sophomore Benjamin De Haas and junior Gavin Holmes in the third period.
  • Two of the Golden Grizzlies' four markers came via the power play.
Beyond the Boxscore
  • The new ACHA Division 3 men's rankings were released just before puckdrop tonight, as LTU climbed from No. 8 while OU dropped from No. 6.
  • Jentz has now overtaken the LTU scoring lead with 15 points on seven goals and eight assists.
Next up, these same two teams meet at 6 p.m. Saturday at Buffalo Wild Wings Arena in Troy.
