GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.--Junior
Blake Lund scored 19 points off the bench in a sharpshooting performance, but Lawrence Tech had a tough time keeping Aquinas off the rim in an 85-76 loss at the hands of the Saints in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference men's basketball action at the Sturrus Center on Coach "Bo" Court on Saturday.
Lawrence Tech falls even to 6-6 on the season, including a 3-4 WHAC mark, while Aquinas is now 6-4 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
Lawrence Tech Highlights
- In leading the team in scoring, Lund made 5 of 6 three-point field goals and all four of his free throw attempts. He led the team with five rebounds.
- Senior Nathaniel Ward was right behind him with 18 points on 6-of-9 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. He had four assists.
- Classmate Brandon Beavers contributed 16 points and dished a game-best five assists.
- Senior Alejandro Gonzalez (9 points, 3 rebounds) led all defenders with three steals.
Aquinas Highlights
- Donovan Brown-Boyd led a balanced offensive attack with five Saints in double digits with a game-high 21 points (7-12 FGs, 6-9 3FGs).
- Andrew Larson added 19 points (8-13 FGs), followed by Devon Boyd with 16 (7-13 FGs), Jared Lary had 12 (4-7 FGs, 3-4 3 FGs) and DeAndre Francis, 11 (5-8 FGs).
- Francis pulled down a game-high nine rebounds, Boyd had eight and Larson, seven.
- Devon Boyd had a game-high-tying five assists.
How it Happened
- Aquinas outrebounded LTU 39-23 while scoring 12 second-chance points on 10 offensive boards, and outscored the Blue Devils in the paint, 42-24.
- The Saints outshot the Blue Devils by making 52.5 percent of their field goals (32-61) compared to 39.3 (24-61) for the visitors.
- Lawrence Tech remained in the game by making 17 of 20 free throw attempts for 85.0 percent and outscoring the AQ bench 27-14.
- The teams traded treys at the beginning of the second half that saw Beavers give LTU its last lead of 39-37 before Donovan B.-Boyd regained it 40-39 on the ensuing possession.
- Lawrence Tech junior Cameron McEvans (8 points) cut the deficit to 48-46 with 13 minutes and 37 seconds left, but Aquinas went on a 9-0 run over the next 1:13 to take a comfortable 57-46 advantage at the 12:15 mark.
- From there, LTU was unable to get closer than six points as AQ led by as many as 13.
- In the first half, the Blue Devils built as much as an 11-point lead, 24-13 at 7:24, on a pair of Lund free throws.
- The Saints, however, ended the first half on a 18-7 run as the teams went into the intermission tied at 31-31.

- Aquinas leads the all-time series since the 2012-13 season, 19-4.
- Beavers raises his career point total at LTU to 1,238, which ranks second all-time in school history.
- His current WHAC ranks include second in rebounding (7.5 per game) and third in scoring (19.0 points per game).
- The Saints' Larson is fourth in conference field goal percentage at .602.
