Oregon Shocks Men's Hockey with 4-3 Comeback Win in Overtime

Box Score FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich.--Mica Glass scored the tying goal with 16.9 seconds left in regulation and then potted the game-winner 51 seconds into overtime to lift the University of Oregon to a stunning 4-3 non-conference men's hockey victory over Lawrence Tech on Saturday at Farmington Hills Ice Arena. The Blue Devils drop to 10-8 overall while the Duck up their record to 4-7 on the season.

  • Goalie Rodney Peterson had 33 stops.
  • Nick Slayton and Jackson Henningsgard both had a goal and an assist.
How it Happened
  • Things started well enough for LTU as freshman Nick Chiapetta staked the home team to a 1-0 lead on his first goal of the season with 15 minutes and 22 seconds left in the opening period. 
  • In the second stanza, sophomores Liam Bland and Drake Barnish scored 32 seconds apart for a commanding 3-0 lead. Bland banged home a rebound shot by Pittman at 1:48 and Barnish ripped a penalty shot goal at 1:16 left after Peterson was whistled for roughing on a breakaway attempt by Barnish.
  • But the Ducks began their four-goal comeback with three in the third period. Slayton got the visitors on the scoreboard with 16:16 remaining. At the 3:24 mark, Henningsgard cut the deficit to 3-2. After a UO timeout at 1:36, Peterson was pulled in favor of an extra attacker to set the stage for Glass' goal that tied the score at 3-all and force OT.
  • In the extra five-minute session, Glass made good on the Ducks' only shot of the period when he drove the net from the right face-off circle and muscled the puck behind Tome.

  • Oregon is a first-year member of LTU's national affiliation American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 1.
  • The Ducks avenge last night's 7-0 loss in the teams' first-ever meeting.

  • Lawrence Tech student-athletes will be taking their fall semester final exams next week. The Blue Devils will be idle until Friday and Saturday, Jan. 5-6, for a Wolverine–Hoosier Athletic Conference home-and-home series with Concordia (Michigan).
