FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Lawrence Technological University women's volleyball team continued on the road at the Onset Volleyball Invitational Tournament in War Memorial Coliseum, where the Blue Devils came away with two consecutive three-set sweeps on Saturday.
In today's first match, Lawrence Tech beat Indiana University at South Bend 25-18, 25-9, 25-12.
LTU highlights
- Freshman Maria Trevino Nunez and junior Lindsay Hubler led the way with 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
- Junior Abby Zambeck (15) and freshman Dru Temple (12) each added double-digit assists.
- Sophomore Juliana Bollini led the way with 23 digs and two aces.
- Senior Riley O'Connell and Trevino Nunez also had two aces each.
- The Blue Devils thoroughly dominated the Titans, as they reached 15 first in each set and never trailed when reaching that point.
The Blue Devils (2-2 overall) also swept Indiana University Northwest in their second match of the afternoon, 25-14, 25-21, 25-21.
LTU highlights
- This match was a lot closer than the first match, and was definitely more of a team effort, as no Blue Devil accounted for 10 points individually.
- Trevino Nunez led the way with 8.0 points, with Hubler (7.5), Kristen Hankins (7.5), and O'Connell (7.0) close behind.
- Once again, the Blue Devils handled their business by reaching 15 points first in the opening two sets.
- In the final set, LTU trailed 15-10 before rattling off 10 of the next 15 points to tie it at 20 all, then obtaining the lead for good.
- Zambeck had a match-high 15 assists, while Bollini led three teammates in double-digit digs with 19 to lead all student-athletes.
After an exhibition at NCAA Division II Wayne State, the Blue Devils will take time to regroup before Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play starts against Cornerstone in a road match on Wednesday, Sep. 6 (7 p.m.), in Grand Rapids, Mich.
