Men's Basketball Pounces on Cleary Cougars for 91-71 WHAC Road Victory

Junior Cameron McEvans poured in a LTU season-high 33 points to pace all scorers

Box Score LANSING, Mich.--Junior Cameron McEvans came off the bench to drain a career-high 33 points to lead all scorers as the Lawrence Tech men's basketball team cruised to a 91-71 victory over host Cleary in Wolverine–Hoosier Athletic Conference play on the campus of Lansing Community College in Gannon Gymnasium on Saturday night.

With its third-straight win, Lawrence Tech improves to 11-7 overall and 8-5 in the WHAC. The Cougars slip to 1-16 on the season (1-11 in the WHAC).

Lawrence Tech Highlights
  • McEvans' night included 6-of-10 from the three-point arc among 11 for 17 field goal shooting. He also had four rebounds.
  • Senior Brandon Beavers added 20 points (6-10 FGs) as well as game highs of nine rebounds, six assists and two steals.
  • Senior Nathaniel Ward (5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals) was 6-for-9 from the floor for 15 points.
  • Junior Aaron Dolny chipped in 10 points.
Cleary Highlights
  • .Chris Williams had 14 points and five rebounds, and Brockton Kohler had 10 points off the bench.
  • Bennie Crenshaw Jr. (8 points) led the Cougars with seven rebounds (with Tim Kewley) and five assists.
How it Happened 
  • Lawrence Tech held a commanding 47-32 halftime lead while making 17 of 31 field goal attempts for a .548 shooting percentage.
  • Overall, LTU went 30-of-56 for 53.6 percent from the field and 15-for-32 (.469) from three-point land; Cleary was 22-for-54 at 40.7 percent.
  • Cleary had an early 5-3 lead on a Williams layup before Beavers swished a 3ball on the ensuing LTU possession to put the Blue Devils ahead for good.
  • That triple ignited a 12-2 run over a span of 4 minutes and 29 seconds to take a 15-7 lead with 13:09 left. LTU never was threaten after that.
  • In the second half, Cleary couldn't get the deficit to under 10 points as LTU led by as many as 24.
Beyond the Boxscore
  • Lawrence Tech swept the regular-season series in the first-ever two meetings between the schools on the hardwood.
  • The 33 points by McEvans are the sixth-best in LTU single-season modern history and the most since Andrew Rinn scored 31 versus Spring Arbor on Nov. 12, 2022.
  • The Blue Devils' 91 points are the most for a road game this season; they scored 92 in a 92-64 home victory over Northwestern Ohio on Jan. 6.
