SOUTHFIELD--In the 2024 season opener for the Lawrence Tech men's volleyball team, the Blue Devils used an efficient offense and a solid defense to sweep visiting Olivet 25-18, 25-10, 25-14 in non-conference action at the Don Ridler Field House on Friday evening. The Comets fall to 2-4 with a three-match losing streak.
Lawrence Tech Highlights
- Freshman Mario Cid (.500) and junior Connor Cooper (.750) paced the offense with nine and six kills, respectively.
- Freshmen Pedro Aguiar and Nathaniel Brownlee flourished in the newly-implemented 6-2 offense by head coach Jacob Paige.
- Cid also had a match-best seven digs while Cooper led all student-athletes with five total blocks.
Olivet Highlights
- Kai Hartmen led the team with six kills.
- Everett Haynes registered 15 assists and six digs.
How It Happened
- Lawrence Tech doubled up Olivet on kills, 31-15, and hit for a .268 attack percentage while holding the Comets to a minus-.101
- The Blue Devils defense also produced nine team blocks.
- Already up one set, LTU took control of the match in the second by hitting for a .375 percentage and holding Olivet to minus-.280.
- Lawrence Tech never trailed in the third and decisive set.
Beyond the Boxscore
- Olivet is a member of the NCAA Division III Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the oldest conference in the nation at any level.
- Lawrence Tech was without the services of three starters due to various minor injuries.
