SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Lawrence Tech University women's volleyball team faced off against the Crusaders of Madonna University Wednesday night. Coming off a road win against Concordia, the Blue Devils aimed for back-to-back victories. Entering the match at 12-8 overall and 10-4 in conference play, they looked to leverage their momentum against the Crusaders, who were 10-14 and 4-9 in conference.
The match began with solid defense from LTU, giving them an early lead. However, the Crusaders fought back to tie at 12. After a timeout down 17-18, the Blue Devils rallied to win the first set 25-22, leading the match 1-0.
The second set saw the Blue Devils start flat, falling behind 3-0. Despite being down 7-14, they clawed back to 13-15, prompting Madonna to call a timeout. LTU continued their surge, winning the second set 25-20 and taking a 2-0 lead.
In the third set, the Crusaders surged ahead, leading 12-18. The Blue Devils tied it at 20-20 but ultimately lost 21-25, heading into the fourth set with a 2-1 match lead.
The fourth set was tightly contested, with the Crusaders holding the lead until the Blue Devils tied it at 20. Unfortunately, LTU fell short again, losing 22-25 and forcing a decisive fifth set.
In the fifth set, the Blue Devils played catch-up but fought hard. Ultimately, Madonna won the set and the match 3-2. Senior Lindsay Hubler led the Blue Devils with 20 kills, while Riley O'Connell added 17.
Lawrence Tech will return to action this Friday, November 1st, traveling to Dearborn to face the University of Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines at 7 PM in another exciting WHAC match up.
