SOUTHFIELD--Sophomore
Kate Jacobs recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as the Lawrence Tech women's basketball team fell at the hands of visiting Lourdes, 52-47, in a Wolverine–Hoosier Athletic Conference contest at the Don Ridler Field House on Wednesday evening. The Blue Devils fall to 11-14 overall and 9-10 in the WHAC, while the Gray Wolves improve to 10-14 on the season and 8-11 in the conference.
Lourdes' Macie Stringfellow notched a double-double of her own with game highs of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Shae Pedroza contributed 12 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Senior
Dominique Evans (8 points) had a game-high-tying three assists and pulled down four rebounds for LTU, which was outrebounded 43 to 33.
The game was close evidenced by four ties and 12 lead changes. The biggest lead for Lourdes occurred with 7 minutes and 9 seconds remaining in the third quarter when Halle Barnett (6 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals) converted a layup, 32-24. But that advantage was shortlived as LTU ended the frame on a 7-1 run to trail just 33-31 after a 3ball by sophomore
Gracie Bobo (6 points).
In the fourth quarter, LTU took its last lead at 36-35 on a Jacobs layin with 6:53 left. Lourdes responded by scoring seven of the next eight points to go up 43-36 at the 3:13 mark. The Blue Devils, however, clawed back to within one point, 45-44, after a three-pointer by junior
Maggie Long (6 points) on the fastbreak with 44 seconds left.
Lawrence Tech trailed 47-44 and had the ball for the last possession with a chance to get a trey to send it to overtime, but Lourdes forced a turnover and made five of six free throws in the last 13 seconds to escape with the win.
Lawrence Tech is back in action at 3 p.m. Saturday in Grand Rapids where they will travel to Cornerstone University for a WHAC game.
