Jade Faris and sophomore
Kate Jacobs both recorded double-doubles for the Lawrence Tech women's basketball team, but it wasn't enough to overcome a quick start by host Cornerstone in a 58-48 loss in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action at Mol Arena on Saturday. The Blue Devils drop to 11-15 overall and 9-11 in the WHAC, while the Golden Eagles improve to 13-12 on the season and 11-9 in the conference.
Faris led the Blue Devils with 13 points and a game-best 13 rebounds, while Jacobs scored 11 points and matched her with 13 rebounds. Senior
Dominique Evans chipped in 12 points.
For Cornerstone, Olivia Kubik scored a game-high 15 points while Stephanie Ainsworth notched a double-double of her own with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
The Golden Eagles, who never trailed, led 18-8 after the first quarter and built their largest lead of 14 points in the second quarter to go up 26-20 at halftime.
Lawrence Tech continue to battle in the third quarter when it outscored CU 19-17 to cut the deficit to 43-39. But the Golden Eagles scored 15 of the 24 points in the fourth to hold off LTU.
Lawrence Tech will have Senior Night on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. when the Blue Devils host WHAC opponent Siena Heights at the Don Ridler Field House.
