Sean Pilet scored the only goal of the game 8 minutes and 38 seconds into overtime to lift No. 2 seed Lawrence Tech past No. 3 seed and host Michigan-Dearborn in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference semifinal match-up at the UM-Dearborn Field House Ice Arena on Saturday.
The Blue Devils, who improve to 21-11 overall, will meet regular-season conference champion and nationally-ranked Indiana Tech in Sunday's WHAC championship game here at 1 p.m., with the winner gaining the conference's automatic bid to the American Collegiate Hockey Association Tournament. The Warriors defeated Concordia (Michigan), 3-2 in overtime, in today's other semifinal game.
Tonight gives LTU a 5-0 season record against UMD--the first time the Blue Devils have ever swept the Wolverines in a single-season. This was also the lowest scoring game in series history, which UMD holds 17-7.
Sophomore goalie
Brett Tome stopped all 42 shots he faced--including four in the extra session--to register his fourth shutout this season and up his record to 19-9-1. His Wolverine counterpart Drew Adams also played well with 29 saves.
Graduate student
Thimo Ey assisted on Pilet's 12th goal. Ey now has four assists this postseason to up his season total to 29, extending his career high.
The Wolverines, who went 0-for-3 on the power play, end their season at 20-12.
