Men's Volleyball Sweeps Visiting Aquinas College in WHAC Action

Brendon Down recorded match highs of eight kills and five service aces

Box Score SOUTHFIELD--The Lawrence Tech men's volleyball team had its best team defensive effort so far this season on Tuesday night when the Blue Devils swept visiting Aquinas College 25-11, 25-13, 25-16 at the Don Ridler Field House. Lawrence Tech has won six matches in a row to improve to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, while the Saints fall to 2-7 and 0-2.

The Blue Devils held the Saints to a minus-.145 attack percentage, forcing 19 errors against just 11 kills. Reigning NAIA and WHAC Defensive Player of the Week sophomore Akram Askoul led LTU with four total blocks among eight for a team total. Lawrence Tech hasn't allowed an opponent to hit over .200 in the last six outings.

Offensively, redshirt junior Brendon Down led the way for LTU with match bests of eight kills (.800) and five service aces. Freshman Gustavo Machado added six kills and classmate Nathaniel Brownlee had 21 assists.

Aquinas was led by Noah Smith-Slosar and Zachary Nosky with four and three kills, respectively.
