GOSHEN, Ind.--Nationally-ranked Lawrence Tech used a record-setting night on Saturday to hold off a pesky Goshen College squad in a five-set thriller at Ruth Gunden Gymnasium, but the No. 14 Blue Devils used a fast start to defeat the host Maple Leafs 25-23, 25-22, 25-27, 21-25, 15-12 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference men's volleyball action.
Lawrence Tech, which is 9-1 for the first time in team history, also improves to 5-1 in the WHAC. Goshen falls to 4-9 on the season and 0-6 in the conference.

Brendon Down set school records with 24 kills and seven service aces to set the pace for LTU, which hit .255 for the match. Freshman
Nathaniel Brownlee also set a LTU single-match record with 61 assists.
Hasan Hadzic led Goshen with a match-high 31 kills and Sawyer Frystak chipped in 10. Bruno Barac added seven kills and nine total blocks. The Maple Leafs hit .289.
In the decisive fifth set, LTU trailed just once at 1-0 while holding leads of 11-7, 13-8 and 14-10. A Maple Leaf bad set ignited a 3-0 run for LTU, which went ahead for good at 5-4.

Gustavo Machado had a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs, graduate student
Gustavo Heidrich had a match-best 12 digs, and freshman
Mario Cid (.240, 4 blocks) and sophomore
Akram Askoul (.529, 4 blocks) had 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
The previous school records were held by Felix Perez (23 kills on Feb. 25, 2022), Gospel Sua (60 assists on March 3, 2018) and Felix Perez (5 aces on Feb. 15, 2022) and
Jeffry Fuhrmann (5 aces on Feb. 25, 2022).
Lawrence Tech returns to action on Tuesday (7:30 p.m.) when it travels to Adrian to square off against WHAC foe Siena Heights.
