No. 7 Blue Devils end their season with a 61-45 defeat on the road

Box Score ADRIAN, Mich.--The Lawrence Tech women's basketball team gave host Siena Heights all it could handle in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference quarterfinal game on Fred Smith Court at the SHU Saints Field House, where the Saints outscored the visitors 18-9 in the fourth quarter to earn a 61-45 victory on Wednesday evening.

The seventh-seeded Blue Devils end their season with a 12-17 overall record, while No. 2 Siena Heights improves to 26-3 and advances to play the Concordia (Michigan)/Lourdes winner in the conference tournament semifinals.

Freshman DeDe Smith came off the LTU bench with a team-high 11 points, followed by junior Maggie Long with 10. Sophomore Kate Jacobs (6 points) led the Blue Devils with a strong rebounding effort with a game-high 10 rebounds, followed by Smith with nine and senior Dominique Evans (9 points), 6.

Kayla Hinton led the Saints with game highs of 17 points, three assists and four steals, plus she grabbed nine rebounds. E'Moni Guice-Finch added 11 points in 17 minutes off the bench and Jakarri Alven contributed, 10.

In a game that was much closer than the final score indicated, LTU was within two points, 45-43, with 8 minutes and 11 seconds to go after a Jacobs' jumper as the Blue Devils trailed 45-38 to begin the fourth quarter. Siena Heights led 9-7 after the first and 28-23 at halftime.

The Saints, however, ended the game on a 16-2 run to take control.

Lawrence Tech, who led by four points in the early going, struggled offensively by making 28.3 percent of its field goal attempts (17-60) and committed 16 turnovers as SHU outscored the Blue Devils 14-4 off those miscues. The Saints enjoyed the homecourt surroundings by making five more free throws (16-25) than LTU attempted (7-11).

Siena Heights made just 35.6 percent of its field goals, which means LTU allowed an opponent--Indiana Tech on the road--to shoot 50.0 percent or better in a game once all season.
