Box Score SOUTHFIELD--The Lawrence Tech men's volleyball team defeated St. Mary-of-the-Woods College on Saturday afternoon by set scores of 25-13, 25-19, 25-17, sweeping their Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference weekend series at the Don Ridler Field House. The host Blue Devils also won 3-1 on Friday night.
The Blue Devils were led by redshirt junior
Brendon Down who spiked a match-best 17 kills on a .542 attack percentage and he chipped in six digs, and sophomore
Nathaniel Brownlee who had a match-high 31 assists. Defensively, graduate student
Matheus Andrade and freshman
Mario Cid led all student-athletes with seven digs apiece. Junior
JT McCarthy (6 kills, .857) turned aside four total blocks and Cid had three.
Marko Zolnjan and Bentley Meyer led the Pomeroys with seven and six kills, respectively. Ethan Martins made 12 assists.
Besides the scoreline, LTU also dominated all statistical categories including kills (43-25), hitting percentage (.360-.090), digs (30-15) and service aces (5-2).
Leading 15-12 in the opening set, LTU reeled off 10 of the next 11 points to win by 12 and go up 1-0 in the match. Lawrence Tech never trailed in the second set and used two key 5-0 scoring runs to go up 15-9 and 21-12. The Blue Devils took control in the final stanza, outhitting the Pomeroys .500 to .185 while producing almost twice as many kills (16-9).
Lawrence Tech, which is receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top-15 poll, embarks on a road trip next weekend against nationally-ranked WHAC foes at Lourdes in Sylvania, Ohio, on Friday (7 p.m.) and at Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne on Saturday (3 p.m.).
