UTICA, MICH. -- The Lawrence Technological University Baseball team hosted WHAC-#1 UNOH in conference play.
Game 1
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A single to center gave UNOH an early 1-0 lead
- A throwing error resulted in two LTU runs, capped off by Jake Llaneza bringing in Trent Reed, who had reached on the error
- An RBI groundout tied the game at two in th third
- Zach Meier and Jack Burch drove in runs with the bases loaded in the third to reclaim the lead
- The Racers added a run to come within one in the fifth
- An RBI single in the seventh for UNOH forced extras
- In the 8th, UNOH grabbed three runs to cap the comeback
NOTES:
- Kenny Wright started and pitched 6 IP, allowing 3 runs (both earned) on 7 hits and 2 walks, striking out 3. He pitched well enough to earn a win, but took a no decision
- Matt Olson pitched 1.2 IP, allowing 4 (3 earned) on 4 hits and 2 walks. He was tagged with the loss
Game 2
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Racers put a 3-spot up in the first
- UNOH led 5-0 before the Blue Devils got their first base runner
- The Blue Devils got an out in the fourth when Hanible failed to tag up from third, thinking he scored the sixth run for UNOH, but instead produced out number 3
- The end of the top half of the fourth energized LTU, allowing the first three batters to reach, leading to a Meier RBI hit and a Brett Reed sac ffly, to be within 3 (UNOH 5, LTU 2)
- It unraveled in the fifth, as the Racers plated 5
- Two more LTU runs came across on Jason Erhardt's RBI ground out and Jack Burch's single
- Cameron Hardy's solo homer to left closed the scoring
NOTES:
- Jake Llaneza started and pitched 3 IP, allowing 5 runs (all earned) on 3 hits and 5 walks, striking out 2.
- Jeremy Flattery pitched 2 innings in relief, allowing 5 runs (all earned) on 4 hits
- Cole Smith and Nick McCormick pitched individual scoreless innings in relief.
