VIERA, Fla. - The Lawrence Tech softball team headed out to Viera, Florida for their spring training in the Space Coast Classic on Sunday. The Blue Devils faced Trinity Christian in game 1 winning 9-3, Bethel in game 2 winning 3-2, and Fisher in game 3 winning 17-1 ending in 5 innings. Lawrence Tech is now 7-7 on their season.
Game 1:
The Trolls hit a triple in the top of the first inning scoring a run and then the Trolls outfielder hit a fly ball, which brought in another run. Junior Larissa Mercado hit a single which brought in freshmen Abby Gardner to score. In the same inning, sophomore Alyssa Bloomfield hit a double which brought in her sister to score, freshmen Ashlyn Bloomfield. Junior Lily Morrissette hit a triple in the second inning which brought in three runs for the Blue Devils. The Blue Devils scored another run to close out the second inning. Gardner hit a double in the third inning which brought in freshmen Jocelyn Hall. Alyssa Bloomfield hit a triple in the fourth inning to bring in Mercado and in the same inning junior Gloriana Su'a hit a double to bring in Alyssa Bloomfield. Trinity attempted to come back but could only bring in one more run. Senior Clover Brandt pitched for the Blue Devils allowing 11 hits for the Trolls and 3 runs scored. Brandt struck out 2 Trolls in 6 innings pitched. Sophomore Mikayla Timm closed out the last inning allowing 0 hits, 0 runs scored and struck out 1 Troll.
Game 2:
The Lions outfielder hit a sacrifice fly to bring in a run, which put the Lions on the board in the fourth inning. The Blue Devils came back in the bottom of the fourth starting with Alyssa Bloomfield hitting a single which brought in her sister Ashlyn from third. Freshmen Zoey Markey hit a single in the same inning to bring in Morrissette from third, which gave the Blue Devils the lead. Bethel came back to tied the score back up in the next inning making it 2-2. To break the tie, sophomore Hailey Hack hit a single and scored senior Nicole Powrozek in the seventh inning to win the game. Freshmen Sarah Basket pitched for the Blue Devils allowing 2 hits for the Lions and 2 runs scored. Basket struck out 6 Lions in 5 innings. Timm closed out the last two innings allowing 1 hit, 0 runs, and stuck out 1 Lion.
Game 3:
The Blue Devils started out strong scoring six runs in the first inning, two in the second, two in the third, five in the fourth, and two in the fifth. The game ended in five innings due to mercy rule. The Falcons scored their one and only run in the third inning. Sophomore Chloe Hug hit a home run in the third inning. Sophomore Morgan James and junior Larissa Mercado both hit triples. Junior Chloe Carpenter and junior Emily Ledbetter both hit doubles. Freshmen Jocelyn Hall pitched for the Blue Devils allowing 3 hits for the Falcons and 1 run scored. Hall struck out 6 Falcons in 3 innings pitched. Su'A closed out the last two innings for the Blue Devils, allowing 1 hit, 0 runs for the Falcons, and struck out 3 Falcons.
The Blue Devils are right back at it Tuesday morning at 10am against Dakota Wesleyan, and 12:15pm against Keiser.
