VIERA, Fla. - The Lawrence Tech softball team headed out to Viera, Florida for their spring training in the Space Coast Classic on Sunday. The Blue Devils faced Dakota Wesleyan in game 1 falling 6-0, and Keiser in game 2 falling 7-1 on Tuesday. Lawrence Tech is now 7-9 on their season.
Game 1:
The Blue Devils had some bat troubles against the Tigers as they only got three hits off all game. The Tigers scored a run in the fourth inning as the outfielder stole third, the Blue Devils defense had an error on the field causing the Tigers outfielder to keep running home. The Tigers went on to score two more runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh. The sophomore class led the day for the Blue Devils as sophomore Alyssa Bloomfield, sophomore Chloe Hug, and sophomore Hailey Hack all had a hit. Sophomore Mikayla Timm pitched for the Blue Devils allowing 8 hits for the Tigers and 6 runs scored. Timm struck out 4 Tigers in 6.2 innings pitched. Freshman Sarah Basket closed out the end of the inning throwing 3 pitches.
Game 2:
The Blue Devils started off the game good with junior Morgan James hitting a single which brought in junior Lily Morrissette, who had hit a triple prior to James' hit, to score. The Blue Devils struggled in the second inning, allowing the Seahawks to score six runs, making the score 6-1. Keiser scored one more run in the seventh inning. Sophomore Alyssa Bloomfield, junior Morgan James, and senior Nicole Powrozek all had a hit. Freshman Sarah Basket pitched for the Blue Devils allowing 3 hits for the Seahawks, and 4 runs scored. Basket struck out 2 Seahawks in 4 innings pitched. Senior Clover Brandt stepped in allowing 4 hits for the Seahawks, and 3 runs scored.
The Blue Devils are right back at it Wednesday afternoon at 12:15pm against University of Saint Francis, and 2:30pm against Mount Marty.
