VIERA, Fla. - The Lawrence Tech softball team headed out to Viera, Florida for their spring training in the Space Coast Classic on Sunday. The Blue Devils faced No. 16 Indiana Wesleyan in game 1 falling 4-2, St. Thomas (Fla.) in game 2 falling 8-0, and No. 10 Marian in game 3. Lawrence Tech is now 9-12 on their season.
Game 1:
The Blue Devils started the game off up 2-0 with a hit from junior Chloe Carpenter which scored freshman Zoey Markey in the second inning. Junior Gloriana Su'a singled in the third inning, scoring sophomore Chloe Hug. The Wildcats started their comeback in the fifth inning, scoring three runs and scoring another run in the seventh inning. Markey had a double and a single in game 1, Su'a had 2 hits, and Hug and Carpenter had a hit. Senior Clover Brandt pitched for the Blue Devils allowing 5 hits for the Wildcats and 3 runs scored. Brandt struck out 2 Wildcats in 5 innings pitched. Freshman Jocelyn Hall closed out the game allowing 1 hit and 1 run scored for the Wildcats in 2 innings pitched.
Game 2:
St. Thomas started early by scoring two runs in the first inning. The Bobcats scored a run in every inning until the fifth inning, they scored three more runs. The Blue Devils had a chance to keep the game going, but could not extend the game, ending the game in five innings. Freshman Zoey Markey had a hit for the Blue Devils. Sophomore Mikayla Timm pitched for the Blue Devils, allowing 7 hits for the Bobcats and 5 runs scored. Timm struck out 1 Bobcat in 3 innings pitched. Freshman Sarah Basket closed out the game allowing 3 hits and 3 runs scored for the Bobcats in 2 innings pitched.
Game 3:
The Blue Devils started out strong, putting the first run up after freshman Ashlyn Bloomfield sacrificed a fly out to center field which scored freshman Zoey Markey. Marian found a way to come back as they scored all five of their runs in the seventh inning. Markey hit a triple in her third game of the day, sophomore Alyssa Bloomfield hit a double, and senior Mazie Lawler and Ashlyn Bloomfield hit a single. Senior Clover Brandt pitched for the Blue Devils allowing 5 hits for the Knights and 5 runs scored. Brandt struck out 6 Knights in 6.1 innings pitched. Freshman Jocelyn Hall closed out the game allowing 0 hits, 0 runs scored, and struck out 1 Knight in 0.2 innings pitched.
The Blue Devils are right back at it Friday afternoon for their final day in Viera, Florida at 12:15pm against Florida National and 2:30pm against New College of Florida.
