Baseball Clubs Warriors

UTICA, MICH. -- The Lawrence Technological University baseball team hosted Rochester in conference play. The Blue Devils handled business at home, ending a three-game losing streak.

Game 1:
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Blue Devils started their offense in the third when Zach Meier singled in Trent Reed and Jake Llaneza
  • An RBI ground out scored Jason Erhardt a batter later
  • In the fourth, Erhardt doubled in Tasker Tripi to give LTU a 5-0 lead
  • Rochester Christian scored their lone run in the fifth, on a high towering fly ball that landed on the oul line off the bat of Jayaraman, scoring DeFlorio
  • Brett Reed hit his second career home run in the sixth
NOTES
  • Joel Stirnemann got the start, he went 5.0 innings, allowing 1 run on 7 hits, striking out 2. He was credited with the win.
  • Ryan Hulke pitched the final 2 innings perfectly to close out the game.
Game 2:
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Rochester Christian got on the board first, when LaRue doubled into the gap scoring Jayaraman
  • Stirnemann answered back with a lead-off bomb to right
  • With runners on the corners and nobody down, Llaneza's sac fly plated T. Reed
  • The Warriors tied the game in the third on the strength of 4 walks in 5 batters
  • A sac fly would give RCU a 3-2 lead
  • In the third, Erhardt's sac fly scored Meier to tie the game at three
  • A 5-run fourth broke the game open
    • a walk, sac+error, double-steal, wild pitch combo plated the first run
    • Stirnemann doubled in Ben Moore and B. Reed
    • Stirnemann scores on a throwing error
    • Llaneza's sac fly scores Meier
  • A double-steal in the sixth had Llaneza steal home to give LTU a 9-3 lead
  • 5 straight batters reach in the seventh for LTU, scoring 3 more, extending the lead to 12-4
  • Meier gets a walk-off hit with the bases-loaded in the eighth, earning the mercy rule 14-4
NOTES
  • Ethan Hochendoner got the start, he went 2.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 3 hit and 5 walks, striking out 5.
  • Kent Madak pitched 2.2 innnings of scoreless relief innings, striking out 5. He was credited with the win.
  • Anthony Brohl pitched a clean ninth to sweep the Warriors
