Baseball Complete Season Sweep of Rochester Christian

UTICA, MICH. -- The Lawrence Technological University baseball team hosted Rochester for a second straight day in conference play. Like Saturday, The Blue Devils took care of business, sweeping the Warriors

Game 1:
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Blue Devils started their offense in the first when Zach Meier singled in Joel Stirnemann
  • A batter later, Jake Llaneza's single scored Trent Reed
  • Jason Erhardt scored Llaneza with a double to give LTU a 3-0 lead after 1
  • RCU scored two in the third, but ended the inning getting caught stealing home
  • In the fourth, Logan Walker took Polega deep to left for a home run
  • Following a Nick Post walk and Brett Reed sac bunt, Joel Stirnemann doubled Post in.
  • The Warriors would tie it with 3 in the fifth
  • Stirnemann greeted Ian Nitterhouse with a double, and came around to score on a throwing error leading to a 4-run sixth
  • T. Reed would close out the game with LTU pulling it out 9-7
NOTES
  • Jeremy Flattery got the start, he went 4.2 innings, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits, striking out 4.
  • Kyle Hennessey pitched a scoreless inning
  • Trent Reed pitched the final 1.1 innings. He was credited with the win, his first of the year

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Stirnemann hit a lead-off bomb to straightaway center field
  • Erhardt scored on a throwing error by the third baseman
  • Post scores Walker to give LTU a 3-0 led after 2
  • Following Kenny Wright's injury departure, Nick McCormick entered and allowed a home run to left center, giving RCU a 4-3 lead
  • Llaneza homers to left center, scoring Meier and giving the Blue Devils a 5-4 lead
  • In the fifth, Rochester Christian tied the game
  • Jack Burch doubled in Brady Rogers, who entered as a pinch-runner for Erhardt
  • The Warriors would tie the game in the sixth with a sac fly
  • Walker scoured on a throwing error from the right fielder
  • A 6-run seventh broke the game open
    • a walk, wild pitch, wild pitch, ground out combo plated the first run
    • Post scores on a throwing error that ended up in the dugout
    • Tasker Tripi reached on an infield single, advancing on a throwing error, then he stole third and scampered home on a wild pitch
    • Meier's infield single scored Meier
    • Llaneza singles to center, scoring both Ben Moore and T. Reed.
NOTES
  • Kenny Wright got the start, he went 2.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 2 hits and 1 walk, striking out 6. He left due to an injury to his throwing arm.
  • Nick McCormick entered following the injury. He pitched 1.1 innings, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits and a walk, striking out 2.
  • Kent Madak pitched a scoreless inning, striking out the side.
