KANSAS CITY, Mo.--Lawrence Tech men's volleyball graduate student
Matheus Andrade has been named the national defensive player of the week by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, it was announced by the NAIA on Tuesday.
This honor comes on the heels of Andrade receiving the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Defender of the Week award on Monday. He joins middle blocker
Akram Askoul on Feb. 20, 2024, as the only Blue Devils to ever earn NAIA Defensive Player of the Week.
Andrade, an outside hitter from Coronel Fabriciano, Brazil, racked up 4.00 digs per set to help LTU take a WHAC weekend road sweep of teams receiving votes in the NAIA Top-15. Andrade posted a Blue Devils career-high 21 digs in a 3-1 win at No. 13 Lourdes and then 15 more at #RV Indiana Tech. He recorded a .923 reception percentage while making only three errors in 39 receptions.
For the season, Andrade is second in the WHAC with 2.72 digs per set.
