Reed Ties Home Run Record in Extra Innings Loss to Madonna

10th Inning rally forced Blue Devils to Elimination Bracket

Box Score LIMA, OHIO--The Lawrence Technological University baseball team started their journey in the WHAC Tournament against Madonna. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Madonna hit a 3-run homer in the top of the first inning
  • Trent Reed took Bailey deep to left center, scoring Joel Stirnemann, to bring LTU within one
  • An error by Logan Walker brought in a run for the Crusaders In the second
  • A sac fly in the third gave Madonna a 2-run lead
  • Walker doubled in Jack Burch in the fourth
  • Reed continues his hot streak, with another home run in the fifth, bringing the game within one
  • The Blue Devils fought in the ninth
    • Walker singles to start the inning
    • Tasker Tripi popped up a bunt, attempting to sacrifice Walker to second
    • Stirnemann hit a ball to the fence with a runner on in the ninth—but was caught for the second out
    • Reed singled up the middle to put runners on first and third, down one
    • Zach Meier was hit by a pitch to load the bases
    • Jake Llaneza walked, scoring Brady Rogers (running for Walker) to tie the game at 5
    • Jason Erhardt grounded out to end the ninth, forcing extras.
  • The Crusaders put up a 5 spot to take a 10-5 lead
  • The Blue Devils could not match

NOTES:
  • Dominic Puccetti got the start, he went 8.2 IP (167 pitches), allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits and 4 walks. He struck out 11. 
  • Carter Dixon got the final out in the ninth, but could not record an out in the tenth. He was tagged with the loss.
