Ben Sobczyk is in his first season as LTU's head coach during the 2024-25 academic year.
SOUTHFIELD--Lawrence Tech Director of Esports Ben Sobczyk has been on the job since March. And in the four months since then, it's clear that the University of Louisville graduate and former Baker College – Royal Oak head coach is on a virtual--and literal--mission to take Blue Devils esports to the next level.
Sobczyk says that active game titles offered by LTU Esports include League of Legends, Overwatch 2, Valorant, Rocket League, Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, while PUBG Mobile is a game title that LTU is actively recruiting for.
Prospective students interested in a quality LTU education and opportunity to pursue esports are encouraged to complete and submit an ARI Athletics recruitment form as a request for information. (Link to form: https://forms.arirecruiting.com/forms/lawrencetech.esports/form)
Coach Sobczyk's thoughts about the upcoming 2024-25 season:
"LTU Esports plans to look inward this year, to really define what a collegiate esports organization should look like. We have a slew of new initiatives, events, tournaments, and support infrastructure pieces that we are implementing in the fall of 2024.
"Each season we plan to build on those pieces, to become a truly amazing organization for our students to be a part of and to attract the next generation of players to our doors. Just this year alone we hope to increase our fundraising dollars, allow our athletes to play a larger role in the organization's operations, create team bonding opportunities that help connect players from across all of our esports titles, utilize the school's existing support functionalities offered to other varsity athletes, increase the number of paid coaching staff, provide additional support for academics to increase retention, guarantee LAN events to every title we offer, and increase the number of professional development and resume/portfolio building positions for students.
"True and lasting progress is a grind, and esports players are more than used to that. GLHF this year!"
