Box Score SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — The day Blue Devil fans have been waiting for has finally arrived. For the first time in the 2024 season, the Lawrence Tech women's volleyball team will host a match at home in the Don Ridler Fieldhouse in Southfield, MI. After opening the season with nine straight road matches, the Blue Devils are set to host the Saints of Siena Heights for their home opener on Wednesday night.
Entering tonight's match up on a four-game win streak with an overall record of 5-4, LTU faces the Saints, who come in with a 7-3 record. Lawrence Tech is currently tied for first in the WHAC, while the Saints aim to end the Blue Devils' win streak and potentially disrupt their top spot in the conference. With momentum on their side and a home crowd cheering them on for the first time this season, the Blue Devils will look to maintain their success and start the season undefeated at home.
In a back-and-forth first set to open the match, it was clear early that whichever team was better on the defensive side of the floor would prevail in the end. After rallying back at the end of the first set, the Blue Devils won the first set 28-26. Going into the second set up 1-0 in the match, LTU hoped to take an early 2-0 lead and send the Saints home early.
In the second set, the Blue Devils rallied from behind once again, proving they were the better team on the attack as they took the second set 25-21. They hoped to send the Saints home early, up 2-0 going into the third set. However, the Saints fought back to take the third set 25-20, keeping their hopes alive going into a high-pressure fourth set. In yet another back-and-forth fourth set, the Saints came out on top with a score of 25-20, making things interesting going into the fifth and final set to determine a match winner.
In what would be the fifth and final set, the Blue Devils lost all momentum gained early in the match and fell in the final set. Lawrence Tech allowed the Saints to win three straight sets and steal a victory from the Blue Devils late. LTU's attack was led by
Riley O'Connell, who finished with 17.5 points, along with senior
Lindsay Hubler, who ended the match with 16.5 points.
Lawrence Tech will be back in action on Friday for their second straight home game when they host the Cardinals of Concordia University Ann Arbor in Southfield, MI. First serve will be at 7 PM at the Don Ridler Fieldhouse.
