SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Lawrence Tech's women's volleyball team was back in action Friday night as they hosted WHAC opponent Concordia University (Mich.) at Don Ridler Fieldhouse in Southfield, MI. Hosting only their second home game of the season, the Blue Devils looked to get back on the right track after dropping their home opener Wednesday night to Siena Heights University, 3-2. The Blue Devils needed to play better in the latter half of the match after losing three straight sets to the Saints, allowing them to come back and take the victory.
Entering the match with a record of 5-5, Lawrence Tech hoped to capture their first home victory of the season against the 7-7 Cardinals of Concordia University (Mich.). The Blue Devils started the match strong, winning the first set 25-21.
With a 1-0 lead in the match, the Blue Devils aimed to continue their early success in the second set. They did just that, showcasing an incredible offensive effort and winning the second set 25-14, taking a lead over the Cardinals heading into the third and potentially final set of the match.
With momentum on their side, the Blue Devils hoped to cap off a 2-0 lead with a third set win and send the Cardinals home early. After being down early in the third set, the Blue Devils battled back to win the final set 25-17, sweeping the Cardinals in three. LTU's first home victory was fueled by sophomore Maria Trevino Nunez, who finished with 12 kills, and sophomore Dru Temple, who led the team with 17 assists.
The LTU women's volleyball team will be back in action next Wednesday when they travel to take on the Crusaders of Madonna University in Livonia, MI. The match is set for 7 PM.
