Box Score 2 INDIANA, Pa. - The Blue Devils mens hockey team opened up their season with a trip to Pennsylvania to take on Indiana University of Pennsylvania. On Friday, they were unable to get past the IUP goaltender, losing that game 4-0. On Saturday, the Blue Devils figured out how to get past their goaltender, doing it 9 times on their way to a 9-0 win.
The Friday matchup found the Blue Devils putting up 41 shots on goal compared to IUPs 23. Unfortunately for the Blue Devils, they ran into a hot goaltender and were unable to get the puck past him. IUP started the game off hot, scoring 3 of their 4 goals in the first period. Their 4th and final goal was scored about halfway into the 3rd period.
The Saturday matchup against IUP went much smoother for the Blue Devils, who were able to cool down IUPs goaltender and slip 9 past him. On Friday, IUP started the game off hot but on Saturday it was the Blue Devils who came into the game with some swagger. In the 1st period, LTU scored 6 goals.
Avery Pittman opened up the scoring for the Blue Devils a minute into the game.
Justin Hubenschmidt followed that goal up just 2 minutes later to extend the Blue Devils lead to 2. Nicholas Berrettini got one past the IUP goalie another 2 minutes after the last goal. Defenseman Lukas Robinson was the next goal scorer for the Blue Devils, scoring 9 minutes into the 1st period, extending the lead to 4. Nicholas Berrettini once again put one in the back of the net to once again extend the lead even more. 1st period goal scoring was closed out by
Nicholas Ceccarini 15 minutes into the 1st period. The Blue Devils would go on to score 2 more goals in the second period by Kevin Bond and
Jacob Holston's sticks. The final goal of the game came about 10 minutes into the 3rd, where
Justin Hubenschmidt would score his second of the night to cap off a 9-0 Blue Devils victory. Adrien Gonzalez-Marin finished his night with 4 assists.
Thimo Ey was also setting up Blue Devil goals left and right, finishing the game with 3 assists.
The Blue Devils will be back in action in October where they will begin WHAC conference play on the 11th and 12th of October vs Concordia University.
