Mens Hockey Falls Short of WHAC Championship with Loss to Indiana Tech

WHAC Championship Quarterfinal (2/21) - In a decisive WHAC Championship Quarterfinal showdown, the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils hockey team showcased their prowess with an 8-2 victory against the Concordia (MI) Cardinals. The game took place on February 21, 2025, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, propelling Lawrence Tech into the semifinals.

The Blue Devils set the tone early, ending the first period with a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Adrian Gonzalez-Marin and Dominic Hollister. By the halfway point, the score stood at 4-2, reflecting a competitive spirit from the Cardinals. However, Lawrence Tech's Joshua Hixson's crucial goal in the second period marked the game-winning strike, after which the Blue Devils never looked back.

The third period saw an exceptional performance from Maximus Nguyen, who netted two goals, further extending the lead. Additional goals by Kaden Hemme and Kevin Bond rounded out the scoring, cementing an 8-2 win. WHAC Championship Semifinal (2/22) - In an electrifying WHAC Championship Semifinal, the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils overcame the Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines with a dramatic 4-3 victory in overtime on February 22, 2025. The thrilling duel took place in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The Blue Devils started strong, matching the Wolverines with a 1-1 tie after the first period, thanks to an early goal from Thimo Ey. The intensity heightened in the second period, where Michigan-Dearborn took a lead, ending the period with a score of 2-1. Undeterred, Lawrence Tech rallied back in the third period with crucial goals from Lukas Robinson and Ian Kuntz, tying the game and pushing it into overtime.

In the high-stakes overtime period, Avery Pittman emerged as the hero for Lawrence Tech, scoring the game-winning goal. This crucial play, supported by key assists throughout the game from Kevin Bond, Adrian Gonzalez-Marin, and Thimo Ey, marked a memorable moment for the team. Brett Tome, the goalie for the Blue Devils, also made significant saves to secure this victory.

With this win, the Blue Devils propelled themselves to an opportunity to win the WHAC Championship against Indiana Tech.

WHAC Championship Finals (2/23) - In a challenging WHAC Championship game held on February 23, 2025, the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils faced a tough loss against the Indiana Tech Warriors with a final score of 3-1 on the opponents' home ice in Fort Wayne, Ind.

The game commenced with Indiana Tech taking an early lead, establishing a score of 1-0 by the end of the first period. However, Lawrence Tech bounced back in the second period with Ian Kuntz netting the puck, assisted skillfully by Jacques Lavrack and Adrian Gonzalez-Marin, leveling the score at 1-1. Despite a strong defensive effort led by goaltender Brett Tome, who impressively stopped 38 shots, Lawrence Tech could not hold back the Warriors as they surged ahead to clinch the game with a final scoreline of 3-1.

Throughout the game, the Blue Devils showcased commendable defense, effectively keeping the game within reach until the later stages.

 the Blue Devils finished their impressive season with a record of 23-11-0 overall and 17-7 in their conference games, and fell just short of winning the WHAC. Despite this loss, the Blue Devils had a great season and will look to come back stronger next season.
