WHAC Announces All-Conference Awards

Nestor Addah earns Player of the Year

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – 2 LTU players and the coach received outstanding overall honors. 5 LTU players were selected into the All-Conference First Team.

Nestor Addah from Ghana was selected as Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year! Nestor led the Blue Devils with 321 kills and ranked in the top-ten nationally in kills, total attacks, total attacks per set, hitting percentage and service aces. The graduate student is the first Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year in Lawrence Tech men's volleyball history.

Freshman Pedro Aguiar from Rio de Janeiro was selected as Setter of the Year in his first year in the WHAC. He had an lead the WHAC with 912 Assists this year and contributed 11.12 assists per set. He also ranked first nationally in assists per set and second in total digs. He is the first Blue Devil to claim Setter of the Year honors. 

The third big honor goes to Coach Jacob Paige, who earned Coach of the Year honors. Coach Paige led Lawrence Tech to a perfect 16-0 conference record, the first undefeated conference mark since Lourdes went 8-0 in 2019. His efforts also had the Blue Devils ranked No. 3 in the nation. Coach Paige is the first Coach of the Year recipient for Lawrence Tech Men's Volleyball.  

Joining Addah and Aguiar on the all-conference first team are junior Mario Cid, senior Brendon Down, junior Akram Askoul. Joining Addah and Aguiar on the all-conference first team are junior Mario Cid, senior Brendon Down and junior Akram Askoul. Outside hitter, Cid had 207 kills, 32 assists and 262.5 rotation points. Down, also an outside hitter, led the Blue Devils with 48 service aces and 148 digs, he also contributed 250 kills. Middle blocker Askoul led the team with 76 total blocks and 63 block assists, he also had 116 kills.

After 5 Blue Devils on the First Team, JT McCarthy was named to the Second Team All-Conference list. The middle hitter finished the season with 64 total blocks, 46 block assists and 107 kills.

One member from each WHAC team gets chosen for the Champions of Character Award. The recipient of this award best represents the five core character values: integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership. This year, Sophomore Elvis Qafarena was chosen for this award. 

The Blue Devils received 9 honorees for All-Academic Team. To qualify for the All-Academic Team, players must be sophomores, juniors or seniors and carry an overall GPA of at least 3.25.
