REDFORD, Mich. - The Lawrence Tech Blue Devils D3 hockey team faced a challenging weekend series against Calvin University, beginning with a difficult road game on Friday, January 16. Playing at the Eagles Ice Center, the Blue Devils struggled to contain a high-powered Calvin offense, ultimately falling 8-0. The Knights jumped to an early lead with three goals in the first period and extended their dominance with four more in the second. Despite the score, LTU goaltenders
Timothy Young and
Nolan Foster combined for 45 saves against a heavy barrage of 53 shots. The Blue Devils' offense managed 32 shots on goal but was unable to find the back of the net.
The following night, the series shifted to the Redford Ice Arena, where LTU delivered a much more competitive performance in a narrow 4-3 loss. Calvin took a quick 2-0 lead in the opening minute, but the Blue Devils fought back, sparked by a shorthanded goal from Luke Radu in the first period. Radu struck again in the second to tie the game at 2-2, and after Calvin reclaimed the lead, Jeff Rand scored in the third period to keep the Blue Devils within striking distance. While LTU's special teams and defensive grit kept the game close until the final whistle, the Knights managed to edge out the victory on the strength of two power-play goals.
The Blue Devils D3 hockey team will look to bounce back in their next matchup against Central Michigan University on the 24th and 25th of January.Â
