REDFORD, Mich. - The Lawrence Tech Blue Devils opened their weekend series with a gritty 4-3 road victory over Aquinas College on Friday, January 16, 2026.
Avery Pittman opened the scoring late in the first period to give LTU the early lead. After Aquinas tied the game in the second, the Blue Devils erupted for three goals, including a power-play strike from
Zane Irion and markers from
Dominic Hollister and
Justin Hubenschmidt, to carry a 4-1 lead into the final frame. Aquinas mounted a fierce comeback in the third period, scoring twice to pull within one, but LTU goaltender
Brett Tome remained steady under pressure. Tome finished the night with 36 saves on 39 shots to secure the win in a highly competitive matchup where both teams fired 40 or near 40 shots on goal.
The series shifted to Redford Ice Arena on Saturday, January 17, for a defensive battle that saw Aquinas edge out a 2-1 win to earn the weekend split. Aquinas jumped ahead just 45 seconds into the game, a lead that held through a scoreless and penalty-filled second period. The intensity boiled over in the third period with multiple penalties, including a major and game misconduct. Aquinas added a crucial insurance goal at the 16:55 mark. Although Lukas Robinson responded for the Blue Devils just 24 seconds later to cut the deficit to 2-1, LTU was unable to find the equalizer in the final minutes. Despite the loss, the weekend showcased a disciplined LTU defensive effort in a pair of games decided by the narrowest of margins.
The Blue Devils mens D1 hockey team will be back in action on the 23rd and 24th of January, where they will head to Lexington, Kentucky for a series against the University of Kentucky.Â
