GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Lawrence Tech University men's basketball team suffered a tough road loss on Wednesday night, falling 58–55 to Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The Blue Devils came out strong defensively and controlled the opening half, holding Aquinas to just 15 points while building a 25–15 lead at the break. Lawrence Tech shot efficiently from beyond the arc in the first half and used balanced scoring to take a double-digit advantage, leading by as many as 14 points. Lake McIntosh paced the Blue Devils early, knocking down multiple three-pointers to help set the tone offensively.
Aquinas responded with a strong second half, outscoring Lawrence Tech 43–30 after halftime. The Saints shot over 53 percent from the field in the second half and used timely scoring in the paint and at the free-throw line to slowly chip away at the deficit. Caden Pokorzynski led Aquinas with a game-high 21 points and 13 rebounds, scoring 17 of those points in the second half to fuel the comeback.
Lawrence Tech continued to battle down the stretch, receiving key contributions from McIntosh, who finished with a team-high 17 points, and Michael Afrakoff, who added 12 points off the bench. Davin Walker chipped in 11 points, while Damian Thompson scored nine. The Blue Devils kept the game within one possession in the final minute, but Aquinas was able to convert late baskets and free throws to seal the win.
With the loss, Lawrence Tech moves to 9–6 overall and 5–4 in conference play. The Blue Devils will look to bounce back as they continue WHAC action later this week as they host Cleary on Saturday in Southfield.
