FULTON, Mo. — Lawrence Tech rode a dominant start, a prolific day from its top attackers and a commanding edge at the faceoff X to defeat William Woods (Mo.) 16-6 on Saturday morning.
The Blue Devils seized control early and never let it go, opening a 6-0 lead midway through the second quarter and answering every push from the Owls the rest of the way. Luke Gannon's fifth goal, a man-up strike just 33 seconds into the third quarter, proved to be the decisive moment as it halted William Woods' late first-half surge and restored momentum in what became a comfortable road win.
Gannon set the tone from the opening whistle, scoring all three goals in the first quarter, including his third at 9:20 off a feed from Wyatt Salenbien for a 3-0 advantage. He added a fourth just 37 seconds into the second, before Brendan Shinavier and Trevor Donohue pushed the margin to 6-0 with 10:37 left in the half. William Woods responded with three goals in the final 2:30 of the second quarter to close within 6-3 at the break, but that was as close as the Owls would get.
Gannon and Shinavier paced a balanced Lawrence Tech offense that pulled away after halftime. Gannon finished with five goals and two assists for seven points on 12 shots (eight on goal), while Shinavier matched him with seven points on four goals and three assists. Donohue supplied a hat trick on seven shots, and Salenbien and Parker Gannon added two goals apiece as the Blue Devils scored five times in both the third and fourth quarters. Lawrence Tech also converted twice on four man-up opportunities, including goals from Luke and Parker Gannon.
Lawrence Tech's control began at the faceoff X, where specialist Ethan Wagner keyed possession advantage throughout the day. Wagner won 16 of 20 faceoffs and collected 12 ground balls, helping the Blue Devils to a 19-6 edge on draws and a 30-24 advantage in ground balls. That possession cushion supported a 46-42 edge in total shots and a 29-20 margin in shots on goal, even as both teams generated consistent chances in settled and transition situations.
In goal, Dylan Porter backstopped the win with a complete-game effort for Lawrence Tech. Porter played all 60 minutes, recording 14 saves against 20 shots on goal and allowing six goals. Defensively, the Blue Devils forced William Woods into 22 turnovers and limited the Owls to one man-up goal on four chances. Jack Brackin led William Woods with three goals and two assists for five points, including a man-up goal late in the second quarter and another tally in the fourth, but the Owls were unable to overcome Lawrence Tech's early surge and sustained offensive pressure.
Lawrence Tech finished with four multi-goal scorers and outscored William Woods 10-3 after halftime, underscoring a complete performance in its road trip to Fulton. With strong faceoff play, efficient special teams and productive outings from its offensive leaders, the Blue Devils established a winning formula they will look to carry into the rest of the early-season schedule.
