GOSHEN, Ind. - Lawrence Tech men's volleyball turned in an efficient wire-to-wire performance Saturday afternoon, sweeping Goshen (Ind.) 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-18) at Ruth Gunden Gymnasium in Goshen, Indiana. The Blue Devils controlled every phase of the match, outscoring Goshen 75-42 and needing just 1 hour, 2 minutes to close out the road win.
Lawrence Tech's attack was the story of the day, finishing with 37 kills on a .500 hitting percentage (37-4-66). The Blue Devils combined that efficiency with nine service aces and 11 total block points, keeping Goshen under constant pressure. Goshen managed 29 kills but was limited to a .153 attack percentage (29-18-72) and just two total block points.
The opening set set the tone as Lawrence Tech raced away for a 25-12 decision. Midway through the frame, a decisive run powered by kills from Mario Cid and Gustavo Machado, along with key blocks from middle blocker Yegor Volkov and opposite hitter Noah Lippman, stretched the margin to 19-9. Volkov then capped the set with a service ace, underscoring the Blue Devils' early dominance from the service line.
Lawrence Tech replicated that control in the second set with another 25-12 win. The Blue Devils used a balanced offense and continued service pressure to build a 13-6 cushion behind the direction of setter Pedro Aguiar and the attacking of Cid. The visitors never allowed Goshen to mount a sustained run, and Machado delivered the final blow with a kill to secure the two-set lead.
Goshen put up its best resistance in the third, but Lawrence Tech still dictated play in a 25-18 clincher. With the Blue Devils leading 24-15, outside hitter Nolan Meyer hammered a kill to push the team to match point; Goshen trimmed the deficit with a small late burst before Lawrence Tech finished off the sweep. The Blue Devils' front line continued to make an impact, recording one solo block and 20 block assists for 11 team block points, compared with Goshen's two total block points.
Individually, Machado led Lawrence Tech with 11 kills on .556 hitting (11 kills on 18 swings) while adding two service aces and two digs. Cid was nearly unstoppable, posting 10 kills on just 13 attempts for a .769 attack percentage, along with two aces and three digs. Aguiar efficiently ran the offense with 29 assists, adding four digs and one ace as the Blue Devils totaled 34 assists on their 37 kills.
For Goshen, Ben Koop paced the attack with 10 kills on 22 attempts and a .227 hitting percentage, also contributing one ace and four digs. Setter Nash Hubick finished with 25 assists and one kill. However, Goshen's nine reception errors and 18 attack errors, combined with Lawrence Tech's serving and blocking edge, kept the hosts from sustaining momentum.
With the sweep, Lawrence Tech continued to showcase a high-efficiency offense and a balanced defensive presence at the net and in the back row. The Blue Devils' combination of strong serving, disciplined blocking and efficient pin scoring provided a complete performance on the road as the team moves deeper into its 2026 campaign. The Blue Devils will have a few weeks to recoup before their next challenge against Rochester Christian University on March 17th.
