AUBURNDALE, Fla. — Lawrence Tech made one unearned run stand up behind dominant pitching, in a neutral-site match up in Auburndale, Florida.
The Blue Devils broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning without the benefit of an RBI. Pinch-runner Aspen Jendruski, in the game for Isaiah Logan, came around to score the lone run when a throw from Judson catcher Carson Hubert got away, allowing Jendruski to dash home. The run was ruled unearned but proved decisive in a game controlled by pitching on both sides.
Right-handed Dominic Miller set the tone on the mound for Lawrence Tech, firing five shutout innings to earn the win. Miller limited Judson to two hits, struck out six and did not allow a run, repeatedly working ahead in counts and stranding traffic. He exited after five innings with the Blue Devils in front 1-0, turning the game over to a bullpen that finished off the combined two-hitter.
Reliever Ryan Hurshe took the ball late and recorded the final four outs to lock down the victory and pick up the save. Hurshe struck out one and worked around a late push from Judson in the bottom of the seventh to preserve the shutout. Lawrence Tech pitchers collectively held Judson to just two hits while navigating 10 base runners, as Judson drew five walks and had five batters hit by pitches but could not come up with a timely hit.
Offensively, the Blue Devils finished with five hits and consistently applied pressure despite scoring only once. Brady Lee led the lineup with a 2-for-3 performance, including a double, as Lawrence Tech left seven runners on base. The Blue Devils also showed patience and toughness in the box, drawing two walks and being hit by five pitches, helping set the stage for the fifth-inning breakthrough that ultimately decided the game.
Judson matched Miller for much of the night, working six innings, allowing five hits and the single unearned run while striking out eight. Three Judson errors, including the decisive throwing miscue in the fifth, proved costly in a game where both offenses struggled to break through.
With the win, the Blue Devils capped the low-scoring contest in front of an announced attendance of 50, showcasing a pitching staff capable of carrying tight games early in the season. Lawrence Tech will look to build on the strong outing on the mound and turn more of its traffic on the bases into runs as the Florida slate continues later today.
