VIERA WEST, Fla. - The Lawrence Technological University softball team battled two nationally ranked opponents Saturday at the Space Coast Complex but came up just short in both games of a Spring Games doubleheader.
In game one, the Blue Devils jumped out to a fast start against No. 6 Marian University, scoring three runs in the first inning behind RBIs from Sophia Propps, Sarah Basket, and Alyssa Bloomfield. After Marian briefly took the lead with a six-run third inning, LTU responded with four runs of its own to move back ahead 7-6 through four innings. However, Marian used a four-run sixth inning to regain control and went on to claim an 11-7 victory. Propps led the offense, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Ainsley Colman added a two-run double.
In game two, the Blue Devils again struck early against No. 14 Keiser University. Propps delivered a two-run double in the first inning to give LTU a 2-0 lead, and Sarah Basket added an RBI single in the third to help push the Blue Devils ahead 4-2. Keiser responded with a three-run third inning to take a 5-4 lead and held off several late threats from Lawrence Tech to secure the win.
LTU outhit Keiser 11-10 but left 11 runners on base. Natilee Pridemore reached base four times, while Propps drove in two runs to lead the offense.
Despite the pair of close losses against top-15 competition, the Blue Devils showed strong offensive production and will look to build on their performances as play continues at the Space Coast Complex. LTU is slated for another doubleheader Sunday evening with game one at 4:45pm vs Trinity Christian University followed by a matchup against Wilmington College at 7pm.
