Lawrence Tech Wins 20-3 Against Madonna With A 10 Goal First Quarter!

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - Lawrence Tech put the match out of reach early Wednesday night, scoring 10 times in the first quarter on the way to a 20-3 win over Madonna at Blue Devils Stadium. The decisive stretch came in the opening 15 minutes, when the Blue Devils turned steady draw control and efficient finishing into a five-goal cushion midway through the quarter and a 10-0 lead by the break.

Jocelyn Vander Zwaag opened the scoring on a free-position goal in of the first quarter, and Audrey Durham followed with a goal off an assist from Bella Louwerse for a 2-0 advantage. Alyson Walendzak scored during the surge, and Lawrence Tech kept pressing until the margin reached double digits. The Blue Devils added three more goals in the second quarter and took a 13-0 lead when Walendzak scored before carrying a 13-0 halftime edge.

The Blue Devils continued to build the lead after halftime. Emma Barton scored just 57 seconds into the third quarter for a 14-0 advantage, and Lawrence Tech led 19-1 entering the fourth. Tiyanna Thomas scored on a free-position attempt and Morgan Waligora added the team's final goal to make it 20-1.

Balanced scoring defined the night for Lawrence Tech. Walendzak finished with four goals and one assist, Durham added four goals, Waligora supplied three goals and two assists, and Mari Pellmann scored three goals. Lawrence Tech scored 20 goals on 38 shots, put 30 shots on goal and controlled the draw circle with an 18-8 edge in draw controls. The Blue Devils also collected 23 ground balls and committed just nine turnovers.

Madonna's scored three goals. In goal, Bella Faz made six saves for Lawrence Tech, while Madonna goalkeeper Olivia Vitantonio recorded 10 saves despite the sustained pressure. 

Their next match will be Saturday, April 4 in Southfield, Mich. at home, at Blue Devils Stadium against Aquinas College.
