SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - Lawrence Tech rode a fast start, a dominant scoring night from Brendan Shinavier and two key man-up goals in the fourth quarter to beat Michigan-Dearborn 16-12 on Blue Devils Senior Night. After Michigan-Dearborn cut a four-goal halftime deficit to 9-8 by the end of the third quarter, the Blue Devils answered with a 7-4 fourth quarter to put the game away.
The decisive stretch came early in the final quarter. Luke Gannon scored a man-up goal to push Lawrence Tech ahead 11-8, and Parker Gannon added another power-play goal, with an assist from Luke Gannon, to extend the margin to 13-8.
Lawrence Tech set the tone immediately with a 7-3 first quarter, fueled by four goals from Shinavier. Shinavier kept producing in the second quarter, giving Lawrence Tech a 9-5 lead at halftime. He finished with 10 goals on 13 shots, including 11 shots on goal.
Michigan-Dearborn made its push in the third.With a goal at the start of the quarter and at the end of the quarter to trim the deficit to 9-8. Even though Michigan-Dearborn won 14 face offs, Lawrence Tech was more efficient in key moments. The Blue Devils matched Michigan-Dearborn with 40 ground balls and got 13 saves in goal, compared with eight for the visitors. Lawrence Tech converted two power-play goals, while Michigan-Dearborn was held without an extra-man goal despite nine opponent opportunities.
Parker Gannon finished with one goal and three assists for Lawrence Tech, adding play making support to Shinavier's finishing. Michigan-Dearborn continued to press late adding late scores, but the Blue Devils maintained enough cushion to close out the 16-12 win for Senior Day.
They are set to compete on the road April 15 against Madonna University, in Livonia, Mich.
