SPRING ARBOR, NC - Lawrence Tech track and field team turned in one of its strongest all-around meets of the outdoor season at the Bill Bippes Cougar Classic, posting nine event victories, eight school records and two NAIA national qualifying marks.
The Blue Devils' biggest breakthrough came in a pair of B-standard national qualifying performances. The women's 4x100 relay team of Latrice Williams, Martina Montserrat-Vilar, Jade Ullenbruch and Anaiia Simmons finished in 46.54 seconds, a school-record time that currently ranks No. 6 in the NAIA. Camron Krebs added the second national qualifier in the 400-meter hurdles, winning in 52.75 and breaking the school record while moving to No. 9 in the NAIA.
Lawrence Tech's record-setting day reached nearly every area of the meet. Bryce Butler set new school standards in both the hammer and discus, giving the Blue Devils a major lift in the throws. Arianna Bragg set a new school mark in the high jump, while Julian Bailey added another record in the triple jump and Mason Smith also rewrote the program standard in the high jump.
The relays were another clear highlight for Lawrence Tech. Along with the national qualifying 4x100 group, the Blue Devils' women's 4x400 relay also broke the school record, capping a productive day on the track. Those relay performances helped underscore the depth Lawrence Tech showed throughout the meet, where the team consistently turned strong individual outings into event wins and record-level results.
Lawrence Tech returns to action April 17-18 at the NCAT Invite in Greensboro, North Carolina.
